Stone Fireplace Mantels in Asheville, NC

We cast stone fireplace mantels and surrounds in Utah and ship them to Asheville and the surrounding mountains. Pieces come from standard profiles or from a drawing, cast to order either way, and the material is roughly 75% lighter than the same shape in traditional concrete.

Stone Is the Regional Material, Not an Upgrade

Asheville is the one market on our list where a substantial stone fireplace is the expectation rather than the premium option.

Montford’s historic district runs Queen Anne, Shingle Style, Colonial Revival, and Arts and Crafts, and the Shingle Style houses in particular were built on shingles, stone, stucco, and earth colors. Richard Sharp Smith’s Biltmore-influenced work around the city brought pebbledash walls and heavy porch brackets into the local vocabulary. Grove Park and Biltmore Forest carry Tudor Revival in quantity.

The newer custom work in the hills follows the same instinct by different means. Mountain modern houses want big, plain planes of stone and large glazing, and the fireplace is usually the one masonry element inside the room.

What all of it shares is scale. These are not rooms that want a modest shelf.

Where Weight Becomes the Binding Constraint

A full-height stone chimney breast in real quarried stone is a structural element. It needs a footing, it needs the framing designed around it, and on a steep lot with a walkout or a cantilever, that calculation gets expensive before any stone arrives.

Our pieces weigh a fraction of that, because a casting is a thin shell rather than a solid section. There is no footing to pour and no blocking to design in, so a floor-to-ceiling surround sits on ordinary framing and the look the market expects stops being an engineering line item. What makes the shell strong enough to work that way is the reinforcement, which we went through in glass fiber reinforced concrete versus cast stone.

Send the firebox opening, the full wall floor to ceiling, and say if the piece is going above a walkout or on an upper level. The stock collection covers the substantial end, and an outdoor hearth is its own specification, which cast stone outdoor surrounds cover.

Pricing and production time come from our team once the drawings are in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a floor-to-ceiling surround go on a framed wall?

Yes. There is no footing and no added blocking, which is the main reason the material suits full-height designs and steep lots.

How do we get pricing and a lead time on a drawn piece?

Our team quotes from the drawings. A mold change is the only difference from a standard piece, so the install is unaffected.

Will it read as real stone up close?

It is made to resemble cut stone, and the surface texture is where that shows. Order samples, since a photograph flattens exactly the quality worth judging.
